The president's speech at the General Assembly of May 20, 2007We are here today to present to you our course of action in the past year, which targeted to the benefit our village. Our course was and remains demanding.We innovated in comparison with the past and we placed the foundations for the reviving of the village. Long lasting problems, like the garbage collection were solved permanently. The cleaning of the gorges though, falls on to the Local Authority and the choice for the cleanliness is a matter for all of us. We organized three (3) banquets so we meet one another. The collection of proceeds together with the member subscriptions helped us plan the first serious project for the renovation of the "Priest's home". A project, we believe, that will bring villagers from abroad, or people who are interested to know our village. This also creates the possibility to build a coffee shop. The most important though is that the basement can house a folklore museum with relics so this small village can help the coming generations to keep the memories. We published a newspaper, which mentions all the details concerning our land. We publish memoirs of villages that help the continuation of the memories. In our website except from information for the village, we placed photos from every household and mainly refer to older generations. Whoever had contacts with the people of the portraits are deeply moved. It is also our main point of contact with the second and third generations of our descendants, especially abroad. Many will be motivated and would like to get to know the photos they see on their screens. We have begun the effort to maintain every cultural relic, like the arcaded bridges, the old fount of Giannogianena, and every characteristic of our land and have to be protected from the negligence and the charge of civilization. Concluding, we have begun to amend the articles of our association to meet today's needs. As main points for the changes are the translation to the conversational lguage, the increase of the duration of service of the Board of Directors from one to two years; to change the voting procedures and to deposit our funds to other banks. None of the above has been accomplished without effort. We tried and sacrificed personal effort and money. This past year taught us not to loose time and to take advantage of all the circumstances. We did not all agree, but our steps should not disorient us from our main goal, which is to revive our village. We had to cover the gap of decades. Now, the next can continue. If pettiness comes between us and we lose valuable time, we will have an irretrievable retrogression. The next generations won't forgive us. That is why, I suggest that the work of the outgoing Board be continued, with whomever of the members' wish to continue for one more year until the amendment of the articles is completed and then we will continue the typical procedure with the voting. |
